Identity Cards (Symbolization) (1 janv. 1933 – 1 janv. 2023)

Description:

Under Belgian rule, identity cards were introduced. These cards showed whether someone was Tutsis or Hutus.
- Rwanda continues to have a modern day identity card

The Belgians implemented the identity cards so they could know if someone was Tutsi or Hutus. If they appointed Tutsi as chief or in charge and Hutu as subjects or less than they needed to know who was who. It was an indirect rule.
- When Hutus had cards that offically identified them as Hutu they were now seen as less than compared to Tutsi because of how they were treated by Tutsi and the Belgians.
- When Tutsi were given the official cards they were now officially thought of as better than or more superior because of how they were treated by the Belgians.
