r. Henry VII (1 janv. 1485 – 1 janv. 1509)
Description:
Like Edward, worked to restore royal prestige, crush the power of the nobility, and establish order and law.
He revealed his distrust of the nobility through his appointments to the council which included very few great lords. This council conducted negotiations with foreign governments and secured international recognition of the Tudor dynasty. The Court of Star Chamber dealt with aristocratic threats. Suspects were often tried without jury and/or tortured.
