Description:
With the American Revolution, the Continental Congress needed a way to fund the war, so they started issuing the first form of paper money in the country, Continentals. Continentals created enormous inflation in the American Economy, they were recalled in April 1778, and by January 1781, the exchange rate was 100 Continentals to one dollar in hard money, so they were fully abolished.
