-result of Secret Speech: countries in Soviet sphere thought they could move away from USSR with Khrushchev's message of change/moving away from Stalin-tensions in Sino-Soviet relations: Mao accused Khrushchev of weakness (not able to keep countries in sphere of influence under control - Mao's criticism seen as contributing to Khrushchev's brutal response to uprising)
