Middle Ages: Treatments of Disease (1 janv. 1250 – 1 janv. 1500)

Description:

Treatments that followed the Theory of the Four Humours entailed purging the excess humours with techniques such as excreting bloodletting. Physicians also used opposites to treat unbalanced humours.
Dietary changes, sleep and exercise were also suggested. Remedies were also used to treat disease - they were bought from an apothecary, local wise woman or made at home, and contained herbs, spices, animal parts and minerals.

Supernatural treatments included prayer and repentance, or pilgrimages. Flagellants whipped themselves in public to show God the extent of their repentance in order to be cured. Some doctors used astrology to treat disease, or gave supernatural remedies such as lucky charms.
