War of Ferrara (1 janv. 1482 – 1 janv. 1484)

Description:

In 1482 Venice allied with Pope Sixtus IV in his attempt to conquer Ferrara, opposed to Florence, Naples, Milan and Duke Ercole d'Este of Ferrara. After an allied force was crushed at the Battle of Campomorto, Sixtus changed sides. Venice, now alone, was defeated in the Veronese but conquered Gallipoli by sea. Ludovico Sforza of Milan changed sides with ally with Venice, shifting the balance and leading to a quick peace. Despite many setbacks in battle, Venice ultimately gained the Polesine and Rovigo and increased their prestige in Italy.
