Enduring Understanding: The process of creating the founding documents was defined by compromise as the founders attempted to negotiate the divide between Federalists and Anti-Federalists to define the powers of the US federal and state governments. The conflict resulted in a bicameral legislature and the Bill of Rights but failed to protect or acknowledge the rights of enslaved people.
4A Prompt-Describe the impact that Jacksonian Democracy had on American politics:
The Democrats were led by Andrew Jackson and they valued limited power in the federal government. Free trade and local rule. At the same time, they disliked corporate monopolies, high tariffs, and national banks. Tariffs such as 1828 were heavily disputed, but Jackson enforced them. In addition, national banks were debated and Jackson many citizens suffered, and Jackson believed the bank itself unconstitutional, but he still vetoed Henry Clay's new idea. Most importantly, Jackson was a key to the Indian removal act as he enforced it to remove the native Americans so that Americans can reap the gold in the land. Ultimately, under Jacksons' administration American society and economy were heavily changed.
4b-Describe the impact (social/political/ economic) of the market revolution (American system) on the north and the south.
The market revolution had revolutionalized both the north and the south. The north became more industrialized as more infrastructures were established such as canals, railroads, and steamboats. These forms of transportation facilitated the transport of goods which was a benefit for the north's economy. There was a switch from subsistence farming to cash crop farming. The south's economy also benefited from agricultural improvements such as the cotton gin (Eli Whitney). made plucking seeds out of cotton easier which ultimately increased cotton production and demand for slaves. Technological improvements such as interchangeable parts really quickened the manufacturing process which also benefitted the north. The north and south had distinguished differences which would separate them even more.
