Kornilov Affair (27 août 1917 – 30 août 1917)

Description:

- Economic and social chaos was pushing Russia towards the conservative far right
- General Kornilov appointed Commander in Chief in August as Kerensky believed he could enhance the prestige of the government
- People were begging Kornilov to save Russia
- Kornilov was threated by the advancing German army and warned Kerensky of the need to defend Petrograd
- He then marched his troops towards Petrograd to defend it
- Kerensky misread this act as an attempt at a military coup by Kornilov
- Kornilov was denounced a traitor
- Kerensky releases and arms Bolsheviks to help with the coup
