Liu bang was born as a peasant in 256 BCE and became a police officer under the Qin dynasty. He became a rebel after the death of Qin huang di, rose to an important role in the rebel army and defeated the Qin armies under the leadership of Xiang yu. Afterwards, he received control of a portion of land in western china. Civil war soon erupted with the allies, but Liu Bang emerged victorious and became the emperor of china.
Liu bang was a smart and flexible leader who showed particular concern toward reviving the rural economy and lightening peasant tax burdens. He was harsh towards anyone who threatened his reign within China, but generally tolerant in civil matters.
