The Iron Curtain is an imaginary border between the capitalist western Europe and the communist eastern Europe. The term was created in 1946 when Churchill delivered a speech that declared the separation of the two areas and governments on either side. It remained a common term for almost 45 years during the Cold War when it acted as the front between the communist and capitalist. Tensions ran high along the border and it represented the complete disconnect that the Cold War brought upon the two sides of Europe.
