Description:
This approach to management is based on the principles of logic, order, and legitimate authority. The characteristics for this type of management are founded upon:
1. Clear division of labour - Jobs are specific and workers are highly skilled in doing them.
2. Clear hierarchy of authority - Authority and responsibilities are specified for each position, and everybody responds to a higher level of authority.
3. Formal rules and procedures - Written guidelines direct workers and their decisions. Written files are kept and cinsistently filled out, as a historical record.
4. Impersonality - Rules and procedures equally apply to everyone and no one can break them.
5. Careers based on merit - Workers get promoted based on competency, abilities, and performance. Managers are career employees of the company.
