American Colonization Society (27 janv. 1816 – 12 avr. 1865)
Description:
The American Colonization Society was established to assist free African Americans who were emigrating to Africa, and was created by Reverend Robert Finley, a Presbyterian minister from Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Finley believed that African Americans would never be fully integrated into the American society, and that they would be more appreciated and able to fulfill their potentials as human beings in Africa.
He saw colonization as a charitable work that would benefit American blacks and Africans through the spreading of Christianity to Africa, and also believed that it would spark the end to slavery
