RICHARD I (The Lionheart) (1 févr. 1189 – 1 janv. 1199)
Description:
Third son of Henry II.- He wanted his mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine, to rule while he went on crusades.
- Spent most of his reign abroad.
- Used the taxes from his kingdom to fund his various armies and military ventures.
- 1192: On his way back from leading a crusade in Palestine to recover Jerusalem from Saladin, he was captured and held for ransom, which almost bankrupt the country.
- 1199: died
