Berlin Airlift (1 juin 1948 – 1 mai 1949)
Description:
In June 1948 Stalin closed highways and railroad entrances into West Berlin. This attempt to lock away West Berlin was quickly acted upon by the US and British who sought to keep supporting West Berlin. These two countries flew food and supplies into West Berlin to overpass the attempted blockade and provided 2.3 million tons of supplies to Berliners over 327 days. The Soviet Union realized they were beaten and dropped the blockade in May of 1949.
