Jupiter Hammon Lifespan (1 janv. 1711 – 1 janv. 1806)
Description:
Hammon was a third-generation enslaved North American of African descent from Oyster Bay. He was raised Christian, as he went through an awakening sometime in the 1740s. Afterward, Hammon became a local preacher in his African American Community. Hammon had personally come to accept his condition of servitude but encouraged younger African people to work for their gradual emancipation.
