Description:
- Many northerners opposed the slavery- However, the invention of the cotton gin in 1793 made cotton production profitable
- Slaver owners sought to settle in the west for more lands
- Northerners sought to settle themselves
- Farmers from chesapeake region sold their slaves to cotton planters as uncertian tobacco market emerged
- Increased migration broke families
