Richard Wagner (22 mai 1813 – 13 févr. 1883)
Description:
Wagner is a controversal German composer most known for his operas. Using the German philosophy of Gesamtkunstwerk, he sought to unify all the arts into opera. He is also influential for his use of harmonies, orchestrations, letmotif, and chromaticism.
Wagner is a very controversial figure in music due to his anti-Semitic and racist attitudes. His music was used as nationalistic music for the Nazi regime in Germany, due to the nature of his music being seen as hyper-masculine and his own German nationalistic ideals. This greatly hurt public perception of Wagner for the public. His music is widely despised by the people of Israel, who regularly shut down attempts to perform Wagner in Israel.
