American Revolutionary War (19 avr. 1775 – 3 sept. 1783)

Description:

The American Revolutionary War secured a United States of America independent from Great Britain. Fighting began on April 19, and it ended on September 3, 1783 with Britain accepting American independence in the Treaty of Paris.

5,000 Black people, fought in the Continental Army side by side with White soldiers at various battles until George Washington's ascension to commander of the Continental Army in 1775, when the additional recruitment of Black people was forbidden.

On the other side, thousands of enslaved African Americans in the South escape to British lines, because they were promised freedom in exchange for their service. Many African Americans are evacuated with the British for England after the War.
