Nine-Power Treaty Conference (3 nov 1937 – 24 nov 1937)

Description:

Cause (International): Japanese aggression was again largely condemned by the international community, but League of Nation was too weak to act at this point and Britain and France were occupied by German aggression.

Effect (International): conference held in Brussels in October 1937 to address the war and negotiate a peace; Conference resulted in publishing of Nanjing Massacre resulting in more anti-Japanese sentiment. Ultimately, the conference concluded with little meaningful action taken to support China and bring about an end to the fighting.

Cause (Domestic): Nationalism in Japan prompted further Japanese aggression in China despite Lytton Report.

Effect (Domestic): Japan forced to return territorial control of Shandong province to Republic of China.
