Northwest
Indian War (18 déc. 1786 – 29 févr. 1796)
Description:
Despite the Treaty of Paris, the US was settling west of the Mississippi River, causing hostilities with the Indigenous tribes and with the British who had also settled there. The "United Indian Nations," sent a letter to the US Congress declaring the recent treaties invalid because they had not been conducted with the whole confederacy. In 1790, George Washington, recently inaugurated as the first President of the Continental Union, and Henry Knox, the secretary of war, decided to attack the Native confederacy to secure the Northwest Territory for American occupation. Ultimately, some territory is ceded to the US advance.
