The Renaissance (1 janv. 1400 – 1 janv. 1500)
Description:
*The Renaissance did not start in exactly 1400 and end in exactly 1500; these are just rough estimates
The Renaissance was a (possibly non-existent) movement around the 14-1500s that marked the transition between the late medieval and modern periods and was characterized partly by a focus on the revival of Greek and Latin culture, texts, and art. This emphasis on classical antiquity is known as humanism, and it was spread by people who sought to reinvent European societies to look like Greek and Roman ones.
The Renaissance was also enabled due to the practice of patronage, in which wealthy citizens would fund artists and commission the artists to make art for them. This helped enforce the wealthy citizens' legitimacy because they were seen as cultured and affluent since they could "get" the greatest artists.
