Mongol Empire (1 janv. 1206 – 1 janv. 1294)
Description:
The Mongol Empire was one of the most powerful and expansive empires in Afroeurasia during its time. It grew out of a group of nomadic pastoral societies led by Genghis Kahn which relied on horses and other domesticated animals for food and mobility, and it caused the flourishing of the Silk Road (Pax Mongolica), which was a series of trade routes that went throughout Asia.
Mongolian society was generally more egalitarian than many of the surrounding civilizations, although certainly not as much so as today. They created paper money, passports, and a postal service called the yam system which was very efficient. Additionally, the Mongols actively promoted religious tolerance, which can be seen through the existence of the yassa: a detailed legal code that, among other things, protected religious freedom throughout the Mongol empire.
