Practice of giving/rewarding government jobs to political supporters became known as the Spoils / Patronage System. Impact- 1. Opponents charge the practice was corrupt
2.Jackson claims, “To the victory belongs the spoils.”
Nullification Crisis:
1.South Carolina Ordinance of Nullification =right to nullify/reject tariff claiming States’ Rights
2. South Carolina threatens to secede [leave/withdraw] from the Union because high tariffs are hurting their economy.
3. Jackson threatens to send troops.
4. Henry Clay’s compromise has Congress reducing the tax gradually.
