Description:
Cause - American war of independence, French supporting the rebels and nearness of Haider with French intimidated the British- initially anti-English alliance with Marathas and Nizams but English converted them later
- English army under Colonel Baille led to defeat of Haider Ali in Porto Novo in 1781
- Was inconclusive post-death of Haider Ali in 1782 due to cancer
- Tipu Sultan fought for year after death but later signed the Treaty of Mangalore in 1784
