Description:
Vicksburg was a strategic and critical win for the Union as it gave the Union control of the Mississippi River and split the Confederacy in two. After a 47-day siege, Confederate General John C. Pemberton surrendered to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. It was a victory for the Union.
