Description:

Today, artemisinin and other artemether-group drugs are the main line of defense against drug-resistant malaria in many areas of southeast Asia. To date, there have been no reported cases of stable, clinically relevant genetic resistance to artemisinin, although tolerance can be produced through repeated in vitro culture of parasites in the presence of the drug (Meshnick, 2002).
