Scottish Neurologist
-Used dog and monkey subjects to map areas of the brain
-Used electrical stimulation of the cortical gyri (ridges of the cortex) to identify 15 separate areas that controlled movement
-Ablative surgery demonstrated that motor functions corresponding to these areas was eliminated
-Extended localization search beyond motor functions, identifying several sensory areas.
-With both electrical stimulation and ablation, he was able to identify the occipital lobe as the primary sensory area for vision and a portion of the temporal lobe as the center for hearing
