Anthracite Coal Strike (12 mai 1902 – 23 oct. 1902)
Description:
When the mine operators refused to meet with representatives of the United Mine Workers of America, as well as workers wanting higher pay and shorter work hours, every worker went on the strike with 147,000 people. The strike caused a formation of a commission that arbitrated an agreement that would include an increase in pay and decrease in work hours. The federal government had intervened as a neutral party this time, not with the employers. This action boosted the labor movement as well. This was a victory for coal miners and they earned a 10% increase in wages and hours reduction in their day!
