Portrait Mask (Mblo) (Africa) (1 janv. 1800 – 1 janv. 1920)
Description:
- Was from the Baule people on Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast).
- Created by Owie Kimou and he was the most prominent artist in this area at the time, was for Moya Yanso
- Materials used were wood and pigment
- The purpose of this piece was for a masquerade called Gbagba which was honoring an individual with ritual dances and tributes. Normally for respected members of Baule society and this mask was only supposed to be pulled out at the climactic moment.
