Francisco Redi (1 mars 1697 – 18 févr. 1868)

Description:

*In 1668, Redi set up flasks containing different meats, half of the flasks sealed, half open. He then repeated the experiment butcovered half of them with gauze so air could enter. he found that only in the open and uncovered flasks, which flies had entered freely, did the meat contain maggots concluding that the maggots came from eggs laid on the meat by flies, believed that the process of spontaneous generation applied. 1684 he wrote a book and made drawings of a large number of parasites, recording the places they had been found. This comprehensive work marked the beginning of modern parasitology.
* left Florence for the University of Pisa, where he graduated in 1647 with doctorates in both medicine and philosophy
*(interesting fact) he was also a celebrated poet, famous for his lengthy work Bacchus
