Henry Gerber founded the Society for Human Rights in Chicago on December 10th, 1924. “The Society for Human Rights Organization” is the first gay rights organization and oldest documented in America. Henry Gerber was in the army, and while stationed in Koblenz Germany, he noticed a much more open homosexual community compared to America and that inspired him to start “The Society for Human Rights”. Unfortunately, soon after it was founded, the organization got disbanded due to political pressure. But ‘The Society for Human Rights” has since been recognized to be the prosecutor to the gay liberation movement today.
