Shogun Minamoto no Sanetomo (1 janv. 1203 – 1 janv. 1219)

Description:

The third shogun of the Kamakura shogunate was Minamoto no Sanetomo. He became shogun when his brother, Minamoto no Yoriie had his powers removed. At the start, the Hojo clan determined the policies, but then Sanemoto got more involved in policies as he grew older. He rose quickly through the ranks and was the first person to become minister of the right. He was killed in the assault at Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu shrine by Kugyo, Yoriie’s child. He was the last shogun of his bloodline, the Minamoto clan, as he did not have a child. He was also known as a kajin, and 92 of his waka were selected for Chokusen wakashu and also for Ogura Hyakunin Isshu. Kinkaiwakashu is the collection of his personal poetry.
