Genghis Khan (1 janv. 1158 – 18 août 1227)

Description:

Genghis Khan was the founder and first Great Khan (Emperor) of the Mongol Empire from the spring of 1206 all the way until his death in august of 1227.

Born Temüjin, Genghis was born around 1158 as one of the 3-5 sons of Yesügi, a Kiyad chief and prominent figure in the Khamag Mongol confederation. At the age of 9, Genghis Khan was arranged to be wed and for the next 3 years until the arrangement could be fulfilled, he served the family of his betrothed (As an adult, he had many wives and concubines).

By either uniting all of the willing Mongol confederations or defeating all those who resisted his rule, Genghis Khan became the first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire and the sole leader of the Mongol steppe. As Great Khan, he led many conquests and campaigns against other empires and dynasties in the neighboring regions, most notably the Western Xia and Jin dynasties of China. His campaigns served to bestow upon his empire more and more land.

Genghis Khan reached the end of his life in 1227 and was killed by one of many possibilities in the heat of battle during the fall of Yinchuan, which was the last battle of his campaign against Western Xia, otherwise known as the Tangut Empire. No official cause of death has been determined, but historians can agree that it had to do with injuries on the battlefield.
