Description:
The Aztec Empire was an alliance of three Nahua altepetl city-states: Mexico-Tenochtitlan, Tetzcoco, and Tlacopan. These three city-states ruled that area in and around the Valley of Mexico. After its formation, the empire waged conquests and rapidly expanded its land.In 1521, Spanish conquistadors and their allies under the name of Hernán Cortés invaded the empire. Despite attempts to fight back the Spaniards, the Aztec Empire was conquered.
