Coercive Acts (31 mars 1774 – 2 juin 1774)

Description:

The coercive acts was a series of four acts established by Parliament in response to the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Port Bill closed Boston harbor to shipping completely. The Massachusetts act annulled the colony's charter. The Quartering Act mandated new barracks for British troops. The Justice act allowed trials for capital crimes to be transferred to other colonies or to Britain. This caused the Americans to revolt by almost shutting down an essential colony's economy and by undermining judicial systems in colonial America. This was a prime example of the Crown making a radical attempt of taking complete control over the colonies. This despotism was too much for the colonists, and caused the Colonies to search for freedom from complete British control.
