After the death of Yaroslav the Wise, Sudislav was to become a Grand Knyaz. However, Sudislav was in prison, because of which he could not become a monarch. Izyaslav released his uncle from prison in 1059. Sudislav took the oath to Izyaslav, renouncing all claims to the throne, and took the veil as a monk.
