Second Generation (8 janv. 1956 – 17 janv. 1963)

Description:

The second generation is known to be in between the years 1956 – 1963 and were known to be the transistors.

• In this time period the computers were known as transistors which began to replace the first generation of computers. The transistors were more efficient in the time because they allowed computers to be smaller, faster, cheap and more energy efficient.
• The first transistor brought into the world was one that occurred after many failed attempts by John Bardeen and Walter Brattain along with the help of another named William Shockley. This happened in 1947.
• In this generation an immense changed occurred, which was the improvement of programming. The computer programming went from the lowest level known as ‘cryptic binary’ to ‘assembly language’ (which was still pretty low), which was able to allow people to give instructions to computers in words.
• These computers were also known as the first ones to have been able to store instructions in their memory.
