First Written Description of Cagayan Valley (1 janv. 1586 – 1 janv. 1587)
Description:
"[The valley] is very densely populated and exceedingly well supplied with rice, cotton, very large fowls, deer, buffaloes, and a great quantity of wax .... Inasmuch as it is so near [China], and because it contains so many people and is so rich and well supplied with food, the effort has been made often to completely subdue and settle it, but that effort has not as yet been successful. ... The people of the province of Cagayan resemble those of Ylocos. They are very
vile, and poorly dressed, but are fine husbandmen." (B&R, VI, 383-86.)
