Description:
The heir to the Austro-Hugarian empire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated while tour through Sarajevo in an open car by Gavrillo Princip. After his assassination, the Austrian-Hungary government blamed his death on the Serbian government as a justification for Slav nationalism. This blaming of the Serbian government eventually led to Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia. This decalration of war broke the spell of peace between Europe's major powers.
