omg u guys
it's bruce i, and he's an asshole
he's irrational and power hungry, and he glorifies his caverian ancestry and brings back some of the more gruesome parts of the culture, like fighting pits and the hunt (a ceremony where several young men and women are captures and groomed for one night where they are released into the hunting grounds of one of the palaces, and then the noble men and women get to hunt them and basically to whatever they want with them if they find them)
eventually, both the highlanders and lowlanders grow tired of him and try to overthrow him, but after several failed attemps, a group of rebels hide out somewhere in the cadals, and bruce's general, marcus vincent (son of a highlander woman and a lowlander commoner, who grew up in a town bordering the cadals) discovers this and builds a wall around the village they're hiding in in the middle of the night, digging trenches and setting traps that are impossible to navigate through
the rebels hold out for exactly one month before giving in
bruce i has them all executed
his wife (allegedly the lover of marcus vincent) poisons him and the throne passes on to his much more passive son, robert, who abolishes the nasty caverian traditions once again, but he also tries to introduce some of the more progressive parts of the culture as well, like their acceptance of women and lgbt people, and their architecture and art
he was unsuccessful, but he tried u guys
sidenote, his fascination with caverian culture stemmed form studying at the university of daria, where his father also studied, though they had vastly different experiences and interpretations of the learning material
bruce was also called home before he could graduate bc his father died and he had to become the next king, as u do
