Song Empire (1 janv. 960 – 1 janv. 1279)
Description:
Extremely populous and lengthy empire in China. Neo-Confucianism=dominant "religion". Relied on tests for social class, which meant that, while at a disadvantage, poor people could obtain a high status.
Change from woodblock to moveable type--> printing=cheaper, widespread books and knowledge
Champa rice+grand canal lead to flourishing economy (champa could be harvested 7 times a year and ripined very quickly, increase pop.)
Government distributed lots of paper money to account for costly military, but this made inflation severe, so they adopted tax farming (much heavier tax burden on individuals)
