Leon Trotsky was a close adviser and partner of Lenin. Trotsy was instrumental in organizing and the success of the 1917 Revolution. Trotsky also led the Red army to an astounding victory. He had many wins and embarrassments throughout the Civil War. He struggled with Stalin for power after Lenin died. Stalin gained control and exiled Trotsky.
