Harlem Renaissance & Marcus Garvey (1 févr. 1918 – 1 févr. 1937)
Description:
Marcus Garvey paved the way for the United Negro Improvement Association to arrive in Harlem. This association was led by Garvey’s strong will to allow African Americans to hold onto their individual pride and integrate black nationalism in politics. He demonstrated power in being able to provide African Americans with the ability to be self-sufficient or assist them in going to Africa which was very controversial. When he began selling stocks in the Black Star Steamship, he was charged with fraud and sent back to Jamaica. Many however, although against the idea of Garvey’s “back-to-Africa” ideology, spread and helped empower others to find pride in their race. He empowered the future generations.
