Growth of Industry: Interchangeable Parts, Factory System, Labor, Unions (25 juin 1817 – 25 juin 1824)

Description:

Being protected by patens, inventors soon began creating tools that greatly increase industry in the US. One of these inventors, Eli Whitney, created interchangeable parts: this greatly reduced the cost of tools and guns, which led to mass production of these parts, further improving the US economy. States began passing laws that facilitated companies getting capital. This greatly increased the amount of entrepreneurship at the time. New businesses along with factories, canals, and roads were much easier to build. This created jobs, and improved the economy. The English factory system was brought to the US in the late 18th century and was mainly used in the New England territory. After the war of 1812, large numbers of factories were built, which increased the production of goods. The labor used for factories were mainly immigrants, independent women, and some times child labor. The creation of Unions was brought upon to protect the rights of factory workers. It also facilitated jobs for unemployed workers.
