Nixon And Benign Neglect (1 janv. 1970 – 1 janv. 1974)

Description:

President Nixon rejected President Johnson's approach of active legislating to promote desegregation. Instead he used the policy of benign neglect by which in order to move back to the center and attract mainstream conservatives for his reelection bid. However, he did expand affirmative action programs that were started by President Johnson and adopted plans that required construction companies and unions to recruit minority workers according to their percentage in the local labor force. He also extended the 1965 Voting Rights Act and thus renewed the act that ensured suffrage for African Americans in the South.
