African Americans and the Second Great Awakening (1 janv. 1800 – 1 janv. 1830)
Description:
As the Second Great Awakening spread through the South, Black Baptist and Methodists evangelized in their own communities. They combined preaching with spirituals. African Americans built fifteen churches and tens of thousands of black converts embraced evangelical's message of moral outreach. These churches would eventually become critical to the organization of African Americans in their fight for civil rights.
