Technology, Cotton and Slavery (1 janv. 1790 – 1 janv. 1820)
Description:
The invention of the cotton gin transformed cotton production in the South as cotton gins spread. As cotton gins spread, slavery also grew as the amount of cotton produced increased, so did the number of slaves. By 1820 there were 1.5 million slaves in the U.S. Since the international slave trade was abolished in 1808, southern plantation owners depended on female slaves to have more children.
