Description:

The Lewis and Clark Expedition was the U.S. voyage to explore the newly acquired
western portion of the nation after the Louisiana Purchase. A significant event in the history of American exploration was the exploration guided by Capt. Lewis and Lieut. Clark. President Jefferson had ordered
Lewis to make latitude and longitude measurements and to take thorough notes on the land, environment, animals , plants, and indigenous peoples. For potential colonists, the expedition concluded greater scientific and geographical understanding of the territory, stronger U.S. links to the territory of Oregon,
better relationship with American Indian, and more detailed maps and land routes.
