Collapse of
the
Soviet Union (1 janv. 1988 – 25 déc. 1991)
Description:
The Soviet Union began to dissolve as political unrest reached the central government. In 1991, many soviet countries surrounding Russia declared independence.
Significance: The collapse of the Soviet Union was, for many people, Capitalism's victory. The primary communist opponent disappeared, leaving behind fragmented states that had little military power. The Cold War is thought to have ended here.
