Red Scare (1 janv. 1918 – 1 janv. 1920)

Description:

The rise in communism after WWII and the formation of the USSR terrified the U.S. because of the possible threat to its capitalist economy and democracy. Americans panicked over the spread of communism within their country and this panic is now called the Red Scare. As a result of the Red Scared, immigrants from mostly communist countries such as Russians and other eastern Europeans were viewed with suspicion as radicals who were working to undermine capitalism and democracy in the U.S. As a result, immigrants were targeted, investigated and deported as suspected terrorists under the cover of national security and without due process.
